I read your posts from the perspective of education. Finding abundant resources,I felt once again the diversity of "grassroots activity" in America. NPO as well, this kind of activity has been present in Japan. But unfortunately, actual work is nowhere near America.

There are various reasons.

・Low awareness of the value of NPO and civic activities.
・Like the recycling business, in many cases, SMEs are the core. However, financially, often unable to carry out business smoothly.
Compared to Western countries, low investment awareness of this type activity.

etc,etc,etc...

These would be common to every country. However, Japan is relatively low compared to Western countries.

For example,in terms of environmental issues, from educational("social knowing") point of view, environmental issues are common teaching in elementary schools. But "how do we solve the problem that caused" is not mentioned much.

These are just a few examples. But,the underlying factors are cited as the Japanese, this type of activity is assumed to underlie it is reasonable to recognize that state-led initiative rather than citizens.

Western countries have established a volunteer spirit. By comparison, the Japanese might not accustomed to volunteer. This, of course, would have influenced the religious differences, "personality" I have been influenced by differences in values of.Therefore, it seems that deep-rooted problems include.

At least one felt that from this article, because it is rich in resources, in the U.S., management skills to take advantage of these resources might be very important.

And,I guess, you are working to make full use of such skills and abilities. : )

Good point, Jim. I should have added that to the list. I tend to read most of my RSS feed blogs at night, just before bed, from my iPhone. I have tried to comment from the iPhone, but it's difficult. One "work around" I've found helpful is to email the article to myself if I want to comment. The next day, the posts I've forwarded are those that I know I want to comment on. I'm too old for that whole "mental note" thingy. :)

I read almost all blogs in an RSS reader on my nifty new htc EVO and before that on an iPod Touch. I actually read this post the day you published it (as I do with all you posts when I see them in RSS). I made a mental note to bring it up on my MacBook later and comment.....of course we know what happens to mental notes. I just went through this with my friend Sue's blog as well. http://SpaightTalk.com - I saw her last night and swore up and down I had commented on a post. She shook her head no. She was right....So, I too need to make more effort to comment on blogs of others. Comments create a sense of community and I enjoyed skimming the ones here before adding my 2 cents. I'm happily busy with some fun projects right now but missing blog commenting and even a higher level of Twitter interaction.

To restate mostly I don't comment more because I read in RSS, but I do share many posts via my RSS feed. I'll go share that on Twitter right now. :)
